Ongoing Education and Focused Support for Families Living with Dementia
Ongoing Education and Focused Support for Families Living with Dementia
Whether you are someone looking to better understand the many diseases that fall under the general category of “dementia,” or are a care-partner interested in learning how to better care for your loved one, dementiaATLANTA can help.
From free education classes and support groups, to sensitivity training and ongoing support services, our team of knowledgeable, experienced professionals will bring you up-to-speed. Quality times and experiences for those living with dementia are certainly possible, but only if you have the knowledge and skills you need to navigate appropriately.
And that’s why we’re here.
A presentation for those who want to know the basics about dementia... great for those who think a loved one might have dementia, others who need to know about dementia, and anyone who would benefit from additional knowledge about the many diseases that fall under the umbrella term of “dementia.”
A session for anyone currently facing, or who might soon face, a dementia caregiving situation (local or long-distance). We cover a range of ways that people can better prepare for what’s ahead... including assembling a “care team,” what to expect, and how to address current challenges. Positive stories and tactics will be shared.
We’ll show you how to create an atmosphere of healthy living and positive engagement. Areas addressed include ways to maximize the health of all care team members, legal and financial considerations, and helpful safety precautions that reduce overall risk. We’ll also start to talk about support services available to help you provide a positive experience and safe environment for your loved one with dementia.
We offer a series of care-partner support groups at a range of times... we hope that you will find the time of one or more of them convenient for you. In addition, we are happy to direct you to one of the many support groups run by local churches and community groups. It is important to consider attending a support group... it’s a great way to share, stay connected to others, and get ongoing education.
An original, ground-breaking, and evidence-based program, the Virtual Dementia Tour from Second Wind Dreams® uses sensory tools that enable care-partners to experience the physical and mental challenges that many of those with dementia face, and then use the experience to provide better person-centered care.
There are times when you might need to talk with someone who not only knows about dementia, but also has some understanding of your particular situation. While not a substitute for geriatric care management, many care-partners find great help and peace of mind when they are able to call for personalized support if and when a challenging situation arises.
For those who wish to continue their education of dementia on how to best care for a loved one living with dementia, we offer a range of topic-specific classes to further knowledge and improve overall wellness. Sessions include advanced legal planning, financial planning, proven care-partner tactics for challenging situations, home safety improvements, long-term care facility review and selection... and much, much more.
Studies have shown that up to 40 percent of care-partners suffer serious health issues and pass away before their loved one living with dementia (primarily due to stress-related illnesses, sleep deprivation, poor diet, etc.). We offer ongoing mindfulness classes for those looking to better handle the stresses related to care-giving.
